"Early education is one of the major keys to equality in our society and better start for every child. Thank you for supporting families in need."
As a single parent, finding a community partner I respected and trusted to care for my child was critical. Caroline has been with SUM since she was 18 months old. I've seen this organization care for her as a toddler, a preschooler, in summer camp, and after school. She has thrived. I can't say enough good things about her teachers and how they value education and individuality. This year is the first time SUM has ever asked for financial support, and I hope on this #GivingTuesday you will join me in making a small gift so that other children in this community can have access to this opportunity as well.
The early years are crucial. Join me in supporting real change. Let's support good in the world and make a difference. At-risk children attending quality early education programs can make great progress and enter kindergarten at grade level. The achievement gap opens long before preschool begins; it starts at birth and once a child falls behind, they stay behind. The rewards of early childhood learning do not simply benefit the individual, however. There are positive repercussions for the entire community. Every dollar invested in early care and education generates a savings return of more than $16! The savings accrue from reduced costs for special education, public welfare, criminal justice, and additional social services. I firmly believe that we are all responsible for building the healthy foundations of the next generation.
